What is endodontics?
Es un tratamiento dental que se realiza para salvar un diente que se ha dañado gravemente debido a una caries profunda, una fractura o una infección en la raíz. También se le conoce como tratamiento de conducto o tratamiento de canal.
It is a dental treatment that is performed to save a tooth that has been severely damaged due to deep decay, fracture, or root infection. It is also known as a root canal or root canal treatment.
How is the endodontic procedure carried out?
Root canals may require one or more visits to the dentist, depending on the degree of tooth damage. The procedure begins with the dentist taking x-rays to assess the structure of the tooth and determine the extent of the damage. A local anesthetic is then administered to numb the area and reduce pain during treatment.
Once the tooth is numb, the dentist makes a hole in the crown of the tooth to access the pulp. Using special instruments, the dentist removes the pulp and cleans the empty space to remove any bacteria and prevent future infection. After cleaning, the empty space is sealed with a special material and a temporary cap is placed on the crown of the tooth.
At the next visit, the dentist removes the temporary cap and checks to see if the infection is gone. If all is well, a permanent crown is placed on the crown of the tooth to protect and reinforce it. In some cases, a post may be placed inside the tooth to provide additional support.
Is there pain after a nerve treatment?
After root canal treatment, you may feel some pain or sensitivity in the tooth for a few days. However, this is normal and can be relieved with over-the-counter pain relievers.
It is important to take good care of the tooth after treatment to avoid future infections. This includes regular brushing and flossing, as well as regular visits to the dentist for checkups and cleanings.
If you think you need a root canal, it is important that you schedule your valuation appointment as soon as possible to avoid complications or loss of the tooth.
With good care after treatment, you will be able to enjoy your natural tooth for many years.
